City Life

We've spent the last couple of days in Portland...and have really enjoyed it. It is a very diverse city, with lots of distinctive neighborhoods. It is well-planned out and walkable. Lots of beautiful architecture and renovation, including wonderful brick streets and sidewalks - all kept very clean. We particularly liked the Pearl District area, but it was all very nice.

We had a great dinner last night at Ava Gene's and the walked down the street to Salt & Straw for ice cream. They have some amazing flavors and let you taste as many as you want before choosing. AND they have ice cream flights if you can't decide. See the guy below having one . . .

We met up with St. Louis friends, David Abrams & Ken Bensch for lunch. They just moved here last week. I'm sure they'll love it here.

Kent loved this sign . . .

Powell's Book Store - it was HUGE and wonderful!

We kept seeing people walk around with these pink boxes from Voodoo Donuts, so figured we'd have to get some donuts for the road.

We had dinner tonight at the Screen Door, who claim to have the world's best fried chicken . . . And it would be hard to argue with them. SO good! Had to wait a long time, even though we went really early. But it was worth it!

This cute little guy was across the street from the restaurant.

So, I think it's time to head east again. We are leaving in the morning. It has been a great trip so far and we have really enjoyed our time in Oregon.

The initial plan is to take a more southern route, through Idaho and then on to Wyoming to see the Grand Tetons. After that we will head north to see Yellowstone. Beyond that . . . Time will tell!
