Great Places, Great Faces

That's the SD motto, in case you didn't know. And very appropriate, I might add.

Started our day exploring the Badlands - very impressive. Saw a few cowboys along the way (very City Slickers). Made a quick stop at Wall, SD, after that. Lots of signs about how great it was, but waaaaay too touristy. Yuck.

Then we headed to the Black Hills. Drove through the Bear Country attraction and saw lots of animals (Sarah would not approve, I suspect), but it was pretty cool.

From there we drove through Custer State Park on our way to the Crazy Horse monument. Crazy for sure! Longest project ever! Started 65 years ago and only have his head done. BUT quite the ambitious undertaking.

Next stop - Mt. Rushmore. Very, very cool. Whole project was impressive. Very moving.

Worked our way back to Rapid City to find a hotel and some dinner. Splurged a bit, since last night's stop was pretty crappy. Staying downtown at the hotel where the cast from North by Northwest stayed ... And had a lovely dinner at the rooftop restaurant. Good finish to the day.

Here are some shots from today . . . Tomorrow, on to Montana.

  1. This last pic looks like an ad for either eye glasses or a dentist. Looking good!
