We left Madison this morning and headed for Field of Dreams in Iowa. It was actually a really pretty drive. Rolling hills and farms scattered about, with an assortment of animals grazing.
We took a quick detour into Dickeyville, WI, because we kept seeing signs about the amazing Grotto there. And it was a dandy! SOO tacky.

We also stopped into a little flea market nearby. Lots of treasures there, but we refrained from purchasing anything. We even passed on the unicycle for Beth!

Next was Field of Dreams, which was just perfect. A small crowd, but not touristy at all and looked just exactly like it did in the movie, except the corn wasn't tall yet. We "had a catch" and then hung around for a bit. Very fun.

Left there and headed north to Mason City, IA, where we were meeting up with my cousin. BUT along the way, we saw a sign for a Frank Lloyd Wright home nearby, so we took another detour. Got there too late for the hourly tour, but still walked (a LONG way) down to the home and boathouse. Beautiful.

Finally arrived in Mason City and checked into our hotel - the Historic Park Inn, which was designed and built by FLW as well. In fact there are many FLW buildings in Mason City.
I used to come here a lot as a kid. My mom's brother, Bob, and his family lived here and he owned a small department store, where we would come and shop. Lots of great memories. Anyway, I haven't seen any of them for about 25 years. So I connected with my cousin Allison recently to see if we could meet up. We had a very nice dinner with her and her daughter, Brett. It was really nice to catch up.

Here are a few more shots from our hotel and the area around it, including the building where my uncle's store used to be (closed around 1990). You can still see the spot where the store's name (Damon's) was on the front.

Now we're going to crash. Tomorrow we head west to South Dakota.
